The state Centre is Research and Production Association which includes the Research Institute of Molecular Biology, Research and Design Technological Institute of Biologically active Substances, Pilot Plant, Supplying and Trading Company "Vector-Farm", Pilot Agricultural Enterprise and other companies.

The Basic activity of the National Research Centre is aimed at fundamental and applied research in molecular biology, virology and biotechnology. Experimental and scientific facilities of the Centre are unique in Russia and allow advanced investigations to be carried out on any dangerous viral pathogens of man and animals.

• DRY REAFERON FOR INJECTIONS At present, the world medical practice makes more frequent use of cytocines proteins produced by organism which modulate the immune response to various penetrating agents such as mitogens, bacteria and viruses. Therapeutic application of cytocines was made possible by development of genetic engineering methods that provided a possibility to construct the preparations by microbiological synthesis. One of such type preparation is human alpha-2-interferon (Reaferon). Reaferon possesses the antiviral, antitumor and immunomodulating activities. The preparation is produced by Pseudomonas putida strain VG-84 (pVG 3). Dry Reaferon for injections is available as white powder or porous mass. Reaferon (Provisional Pharmacopeial Clause VFS 42-226 VS-89, VFS 42-227 VS-89) is used in complex therapeutic treatment of acute viral Hepatitis B and others viral Hepatitis, meningoencephalitis, viral conjuntivites, keratoconjuntivites, keratites, keratouveites; 4-stage renal cell carcinoma, hairly-cell leukosis, Kaposi's sarkoma, multiple sclerosis. Comparative stydy of Reaferon and foreign analogs Roferon A and Intron A showed that Reafrron was not inferior to these preparations in all the biophysical parameters and biological induces analyzed.

RIDOSTINE FOR INJECTIONS Ridostin is interferon inducer which basic action element is the double-stranded RNA of killer strains of yeast S. Cerevisiae Y-448. In dioilogical experiments, ridostin's efficiency was demonstrated with regard to a wide range of viral infections including herpes virus, urogenital infectious-inflammatory diseases, tick-borne encephalitis virus, influenza, rabies, etc.
